Balancing Bikes
Up Getting Ready Riding Balancing Bikes

Up

The last several years we've been coming down to Abingdon/Damascus early in the year, lucking out with the weather each time.  So, it was bound to happen eventually that we would run into snow.  We did!  After some riding, we were a little tired and came to this snow.  We all just stopped and started playing around in it.  The pictures tell the story:

It stands on it's own.jpg (206690 bytes) I think it was either Rubi or Lisa that noticed the bikes would stand on their own in the snow.  Ok, maybe this is just like when you balance an egg, but for some reason we got a real kick out of this!

For the photographically inclined, this picture demonstrates camera metering.  We really should have exposed this shot some more to get my bike to be the right color!

Ian & Rubi.jpg (255193 bytes) See what I mean about the balancing bike obsession?

I'm glad they're smiling!

Rubi & Ian.jpg (241137 bytes) Look my bike is STILL balancing in the background.  ;-)
Ian2.jpg (179977 bytes) Wait!  Is Ian cheating on this one?  I think we need the aerial view to know for sure.  We'll never know.
Ben.jpg (174588 bytes) Nope, with the load of tools, cameras, tripods, etc that Ben carries on his bike, it didn't have an inkling of hope of balancing!  But mine is in the foreground and Lisa's is in the background....  ;-)
Chris & Lisa3.jpg (180309 bytes) I like this picture of Lisa and me.  When we find ourselves in doldrums, thinking of this picks me up.  I love my wife and biking very much.  That I get to do it so often and in her company warms me up.
Chris & Lisa.jpg (190407 bytes) However, the wet, slushy snow doesn't exactly warm up our feet!  Because of this ride, I made certain to wear my waterproof socks the next day...
small creek.jpg (236156 bytes) This was the small creek running down the mountain.  We're looking up the mountain at it from the switchback; the ravine is behind us.
